Do Hand Polishing by Yourself
Handpolishing becomes popular for
outside-plant engineer all over the
world, especially for skillful workers.
Mis-understanding and fault on handpolishing
will lead to unsatisfactory polishing
result. Let us guide you how to finish
handpolishing in proper way .
We suggest the Termination
Kit of 3M 80-6109-3664-5.

For multimode polishing, it is from step 1 to step 4 add step
8 and step 9. Singlemode fiber
polishing from step 1 to
step 9. Distilled water and slurry
(not included) are required during
singlemode polishing. Strictly follow
the polishing procedure will lead
to a satisfactory result.

Multimode
and Singlemode polishing procedures

1
Make sure that the fiber
has been scribed before polishing. |

2
Polishing puck and
paper are stored inside the
polishing base. |
 |
| Peel the backing
from the MM (light green) polishing
paper and stick it to the polishing
pad surface. One sheet of polishing
paper can polish two connectors. |

| Step
3
Place the connector in the
polishing puck and set it
gently on the polishing surface. |
| Step
4
Perform two figure
eights with light pressure.
Figure eights should be approximately
three inches long, utilizing
the entire polishing surface.
Perform 13 figure eights with
firm pressure. Do not over
polish. |

5
Wipe off any debris
from the polishing puck and
the Multi-Mode (green) lapping
film with a clean, lint free
cloth. |

6
Moisten the Multi-Mode
polishing film with a little
water and place the Single-Mode
(pale yellow) film, shiny
side down, on top of the Multi-
Mode polishing film. |
 |
| Step
7
Add two drops of
water to the Single- Mode
polishing film.

| With medium to
firm pressure, perform 7 figure
eights on the wet lapping film |
 |
| Step
8
Remove the connector
from the polishing puck. Wipe
the ferrule with a lint-free
cloth and alcohol.
Note: Carefully follow
safety, health and environmental
information on container label
or Material Safety Data Sheet
for isopropyl alcohol being
used. |

Step 9
Inspect the tip of the ferrule
with a fiber view scope. |
 |
ATTENTION!!
IF SERIOUS SCRATCH APPEARS,
STOP IMMEDIATELY AND START
AT A NEW POSITION WITH LIGHT
PRESSURE AGAIN.
